Backyard Bowls founders Peter Heth and Dan Goddard have created a
business culture centered around local, organic, and green. Backyard
Bowls prepares their smoothies, acai bowls, and breakfast bowls using as
many organic and local products as possible including local honey,
farmers market fresh fruits, organic grains and granolas, and fresh
organic Strauss yogurt. In order to become Green Business certified, they upgraded lighting fixtures to reduce energy use and they replaced the toilet in their employee restroom to be ultra-low flow. They also implement water conserving practices in their kitchen, including use of a specialized piece of equipment to clean their blenders. For their employees, Backyard Bowls developed a new program to offer incentives and rewards for getting to and from work without their cars. Their ridesharing program offers subsidized bus passes and the chance to win dinner with their bosses for being the person that rideshares most often. " The reason Backyard Bowls exists is to promote a more healthful and conscious lifestyle that we the owners are so deeply passionate about- and a huge part of that lifestyle is the respect and preservation of the natural environment. We strive to do as much as we can to minimize our earthly impact, but are admittedly not perfect. There is always room to improve the “greenness” of our business, and we are dedicated to pushing this envelope indefinitely. Our biggest hope is that we can inspire other individuals and businesses to do the same. " - Dan Goddard Information sourced reliably from Green Business - Santa Barbara |
